The New SPACE is currently in the process of constituting itself as a membership organization. We welcome your suggestions. In the meantime, the New SPACE Organizing Committee (NSOC) acts as our highest decision making body.

DECISION MAKING POLICY #1 (adopted April 2005):

NEW SPACE ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

(a) In order to promote pluralism and safeguard dissent, The New SPACE functions in an open, transparent, and democratic manner. Accordingly, it invites and encourages new people to join the New SPACE Organizing Committee (NSOC).

(b) The NSOC is the highest decision making body of The New SPACE.

(c) All New SPACE decisions shall be made either by

(i) the NSOC, by majority vote, or by
(ii) a body designated by the NSOC, according to procedures that the NSOC establishes.

(d) Membership in the NSOC is restricted to persons who

(i)      live and/or work in the New York City area, and who

(ii)     are willing and able to devote at least 4 hours per week to New SPACE organizational work, and who are willing and able to keep in close contact with other members of the NSOC, by e-mail and telephone, to make decisions as necessary.

(e) To become a member of the NSOC, an eligible person must affirm – in a signed, written, dated statement – "I endorse the New SPACE mission statement and am in general agreement with New SPACE policy. I am willing and able to be a member of the NSOC."  (The mission statement is published on the homepage of our website.)

(f) Membership in the NSOC becomes effective when the above affirmation is received and accepted by the existing NSOC members, or by another body designated by them.

(g) This policy will be prominently posted on the New SPACE website.
